Rockland Gives Back to the St. Albert Community during the Holiday Season
Imagine the holiday season going without… without Christmas dinner, presents or even basic toiletries.
It’s hard for a parent to be unable to provide during the holidays but it can be especially difficult for children surrounded by their peers and friend who have what they need (and more) to celebrate the holidays.
As parents of 3 young boys, the thought of children in the St. Albert community not having Christmas weighs heavy on our hearts. We want to help those families who are less fortunate so Rockland will donate to the Christmas Hamper Program. We invite you to join us!
The Christmas Hamper Program
The Christmas Hamper Program was created 5 years ago by Leslie Benson and her family who wanted to do more as a community with the Red Willow Church. Leslie and her sister in law reached out to 6 schools in St. Albert to find out how many families were in need. They worked closely with the teachers to identify the families that were struggling and what the families needed which inspired the Christmas Hamper Program.
The program started off small, helping 30 struggling families in need with 30 hampers in St. Albert. Each year the need has increased, and last year they did 99 hampers! The members of Red Willow Church have solely funded this amazing cause but unfortunately, with the down fall in the economy, they are not able to fund the program.
What’s Included?
Each hamper is $250 and includes a gift for each child in the family, a family game, a box of chocolates, a gift for the single Moms and Dads, as well as gift card to Superstore so they can purchase groceries for Christmas Dinner. All items go into a Rubbermaid tote or laundry hamper.
The Goal
Their goal is to raise $25,000 by November 30, 2019 to help 100 families or more. We’re hoping local businesses and families in St. Albert will contribute what they can. Even the smallest donation towards a hamper will give a family in need light during an otherwise dark time.
How Can We Give?
If you are able to help with a monetary donation or want to help pack hampers, please visit the Red Willow Church website. Tax receipts will be provided. Simply add the amount you’d like to donate next to the Christmas Hampers box and click ‘Continue’ to donate as a guest.
Rockland is proud to support such a program and give back to our community year-round but especially during the holidays. Please share on social media, with your network or with family and friends. Let’s make a difference together!
