We asked TDG Curb and Landscaping 10 frequently asked questions:
1) What are the benefits of working with a landscaping company?
There are so many benefits to working with a landscaping company but above all, you are assured a certain level of quality. We pride ourselves on being highly knowledgeable about the best products and practices to use in order to achieve your dream yard.
Additionally, in the planning stages, a lot of our clients have a hard time envisioning what their yard will look like. The benefit of working with us is that we come with a background knowledge of how to take their vision—combine it with our expertise—and create a yard that is visually appealing, durable, and top quality (which is something that is hard to achieve when undertaking a landscaping project on your own).
2) How would one get started?
Easy, you can contact us for a free estimate! On our website, you can select a time slot that works for you and book a free estimate. Another thing we recommend to potential clients is to look on both our Instagram and Facebook pages for inspiration; people often look through our photos and find, for example, a certain type of stone or a fireplace that they really like and want to use in their own project.
3) What is involved in the design process?
The design process is all about figuring out what the client wants in their yard and pairing it with a bit of our knowledge and expertise. We can do 3D or ‘birds eye' designs of what it will look like to ensure that our clients can envision the project. We also have a portfolio of photos of past work that clients can look through and see if anything appeals to them. It’s important for us to keep up with trends in landscaping and do our research about other companies around the world that inspire us so that we can give everyone a unique look. Above all, the design process is about creating a plan that our client is completely satisfied with. We will make as many changes and adjustments as we need to in order to make sure our clients are happy and excited.
4) How long does this process take?
It takes as long as it takes for the client to get excited about the plan for their yard. As cliche as it sounds, we are not happy until they are happy. It also depends on the size of the project! The size and complexity of a landscaping job can really vary and as a result, coming up with a design can take as little as a few hours or as long as several weeks. We want to make sure the end project is up to our standards, and that starts with a comprehensive design!
5) What kind of designs or projects can you do?
We really pride ourselves on being a company that is a ‘one stop shop’ that can do every type of landscaping project. When a client hires us, we will undertake the entire project from start to finish, which means that the client does not have to worry about finding other contractors to fulfill the needs that we can’t meet. A little fun fact about us is that we are the only landscaping company in the Edmonton area that does our curbing in house. Our skillset is quite diverse. We can do anything from a simple final grade with sod, to a retaining wall, a patio, a water feature, or outdoor lighting.
6) Are permits needed?
In some situations, yes. The city of Edmonton sometimes requires permits if you are building a fence, a deck, a shed, a gazebo, a hot tub or a water feature in your yard. However, this is not something we have run into yet.
We do have our own safety measures that we always undertake in our projects. For example, we always use the “Click Before You Dig” site to safely identify if there are any buried utility lines on the property.
7) When does landscaping season begin and how much lead time is needed?
It really depends on the unpredictable Edmonton weather. We usually have to wait on the snow and the ground frost. Our season usually begins in April or May! As far as lead time goes, it is better to get the ball rolling early. We are a small company so we can only take on so many projects in a season. It is tough for us to accommodate clients who contact us mid summer. The earlier the better! We can provide an estimate as early as February or March.
8) Do you guarantee the work or offer a warranty?
We absolutely guarantee the work that we do; we strive for 100% satisfaction. In terms of offering a warranty, we will replace any trees or shrubs that do not survive. We offer a structural warranty so that if any of the work we do gets damaged within the first year, for example, over the winter, we will replace or repair it. We also use manufacturers that offer a lifetime warranty on their products like stones, slabs, or pavers.
9) How much should one budget for their project?
The easiest way to know how much to budget is to give us a call and get a free estimate! The variation in size and complexity of each job is so different that it’s so hard to give an average estimate. Another thing we recommend to prospective clients when they are trying to get an idea of cost is to check out the ‘materials volume calculator’ on Rockland’s website!
10) What should someone expect from hiring a landscaping professional?
Prospective clients should expect us to take over the stress and headache of their landscaping project. When you hire us, the vision is a non-negotiable and we will do whatever it takes to create a flawless product. Any speed bump or barrier that might arise in a project—like bad weather or technicalities—are on us to deal with and overcome. Essentially, working with us takes away the burden of the project which in landscaping, can be be quite a heavy burden. More so than people typically think!
