5 Steps to Get your Backyard Ready for Outdoor Parties (Just in Time for Canada Day)
It’s officially the first day of Summer and Canada Day is around the corner. Bring on the BBQs, backyard parties and fire side sing-alongs with family and friends!
If you’re not heading out to the fire works, you might be like the majority of Canadians who celebrate the big day with a BBQ at home. Outdoor entertaining is the best; you can get the prep done ahead of time, children can run around outside while adults visit and clean-up is usually pretty easy (the BBQ practically cleans itself!).
Here’s how to get your backyard ready for outdoor entertaining in 5 steps:
1) GET A PLUSH LAWN
Grass may get prickly and brown when dry or worse, there may be bare patches, which is not ideal for little feet running around in during a party. To promote a plush, healthy lawn, fertilize grass using Manderley Maintenance Fertilizer for use during warmer summer months. Water your grass thoroughly leading up to the BBQ and mow a few days before to ensure it’s ready for lawn bowling, slip and slides or other games you have planned!
2) GROOM THE GARDEN
Ensure all flower beds appear well-manicured by removing weeds and any dead plants or debris. Prune shrubs and cut-back plants that may be overgrown and scraggly. Top up garden beds or planters with mulch or bark chips for a more finished look. Bonus Tip: Add a few more hanging plants or planters with red and white flowers to match the Canada Day theme.
3) PREP THE DECK
Clean the driveway, pathways and deck with a hose or other methods depending on the landscaping materials used in your yard. If you have questions about how to clean your stone paver or flagstone patio or walkways, please ask our knowledgeable staff. Spray down garden furniture and prepare the seating areas by creating a kid-zone and a few different spaces for adults to visit during the BBQ.
4) MOOD LIGHTING
Lighting is key especially if you want the party to continue after the sun goes down! There are so many LED light options from lanterns, string, spike, wall and flood lights that can be used in planters, trees and/or around the garden. A fire pit also provides mood lighting and is a fun focal point for any good garden party. There’s still time to use our easy how to install a fire pit guide so you can be sing “Oh Canada” around your own stone fire pit on July 1st.
5) CREATE PARTY VIBES
Prep the BBQ by ensuring you have propane, coals, and/or other BBQ accessories. Clean the BBQ and set out the necessary items like sauces and spices to keep handy. Set up a bar cart or refreshment area with ice, glasses, drinks and garnishes so guests can easily help themselves. To prevent multiple trips in and out of the house, set up a table for food, condiments, plates, napkins and cutlery. Finally, get your Canadiana playlist ready along with your docking station or Bluetooth speakers to create a fun, party vibe.
