4 Ways to Incorporate Outdoor Lighting in your Yard
As we move closer to winter, daylight hours are getting shorter and darkness is falling earlier and earlier. With Halloween just around the corner, little ghouls will be out trick-or-treating which means they’ll be navigating our garden pathways and front steps possibly in masks or long costumes. To prevent slips or trips, outdoor lighting provides a well-lit front yard so little ones can easily find their way.
Adding landscape lights to your yard not only maximizes safety but outdoor lighting also provides security for your home year-round. An illuminated home is a deterrent people sneaking around your property or potential burglars and is visually appealing. And the good news is, there's still time to add landscape lights to your yard!
Here are 4 ways to incorporate outdoor lighting to your yard:
Spotlights
Spotlights are so versatile as they can be easily installed into any garden landscape. Spotlights can shine on trees, shrubs, fences or on the sides of the home. Once you choose where you would like to add light in your garden, consider how much light is needed and how many spotlights are required to create the desired effect. And for those who like to be extra festive, you can change bulbs and replace with colourful bulbs based on the holiday! Rockland carries spotlights from in-lite Design, please visit the yard to view the display.
Path Lights
There are many options for lighting up your walk ways with path lighting. Bollards have different styles and effects. The Liv Low Bollard lights from in-lite Design are designed for garden borders and low edges to provide a diffused soft light to match any landscape design. ACE Bollard lighting can be considered a mini-flood light illuminating pathways or edges of driveways (see above). Another beautiful option is installing ground lighting to your deck, driveway or front porch. However, snow can cause some challenges in some parts of the yard so we recommend talking to your landscaping company or staff at Rockland about placement.
Step Lighting
Adding lights to your front steps or patio stairs creates a beautiful effect for different levels in the yard. In the winter months, snow can gather on steps causing uneven slippery edges or icy patches. Step lighting helps visitors find their footing and is effective for avoiding trips or falls. Step lighting provides an instant safety factor to your steps and they come in different sizes, shapes and finishes to match your style.
Wall Lights
Outdoor light fixtures are effective for safety and security but they also create cozy, ambient lighting to your patio seating spaces. Fixtures from in-lite Design can be installed on the side of the house, next to your front door, on a fence or retaining wall. Light can be cast down, up or both depending on the desired effect.
